Five stories intersect in a Harlem based braiding shop that bring together romance, dominance in the shop, and a love letter to the existence of Black women in this comedic musical.

ABOUT Whitney White

Whitney is currently directing JaJa’s African Hair Braiding, a world premiere play, written by Jocelyn Bioh, which debuted on Broadway to rave reviews from New York Times, Variety and more. It was featured as New York Time’s Critic Pick. Taraji P. Henson, Madison Wells Live, and LaChanze are set to produce, along with the producing team at Manhattan Theatre Club. Recently, Whitney wrote episode four of Boots Riley’s I'M A VIRGO, which is streaming now on Amazon. Her original musical, MACBETH IN STRIDE, premiered at American Repertory Theatre (Boston, 2022) and will be touring this fall to Shakespeare DC and Philadelphia Theatre Company.  

Whitney White is an Obie and Lily award-winning director, playwright, and musician based in Brooklyn, New York. She is a Rolex Arts Initiative Protegee, Jerome Fellow, and recipient of the Herb Alpert Award. She serves as an Artistic Associate at the Roundabout and as an Associate Director at Shakespeare DC. She received her MFA in Acting from Brown University/Trinity Rep. Digital Projects include The Cube (Audible), Animals (Audible), and Finish The Fight (New York Times).
