about Danis Goulet

Danis Goulet is a Cree/Metis writer and director from Northern Saskatchewan in Canada. She’s currently adapting the podcast STOLEN: SURVIVING ST. MICHAELS for FX. Sterlin Harjo will produce along with Spotify. In addition, Danis has been directing episodes for RESERVATION DOGS (most notably Season 2, Episode 4: MABEL). Her debut feature, NIGHT RAIDERS, was selected for the Sundance Institute’s inaugural Talent Forum in 2019 before premiering worldwide in the Panorama section of the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival. Danis received the Emerging Talent Award at 2021’s TIFF, where the film made its North American debut. The film’s release in October marked the widest opening of any film by an Indigenous director in Canadian film history. She is also the former director of the imagine NATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival.

Inspiration for NIGHT RAIDERS:

“Goulet said her Métis dad grew up speaking Cree as a first language and hunting and trapping in a traditional lifestyle in Cumberland House, Sask. Watching him go into political spaces and ‘face racism head-on, with no hesitation’ has been incredibly inspiring for Goulet, she said.”
